As OpenAI users and customers get used to the newly launched GPT-5 model, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman spoke about how GPT-6 would offer greater levels of user customisation, per a report from the U.S. news outlet CNBC.
Altman last week highlighted memory, increased customisation capacity, and a “middle stance” when it comes to ideology, as key factors that would define GPT-6 for users. This means users could tweak their chatbot to reflect their more liberal or conservative viewpoints based on their preferences, according to Altman.
Those waiting for OpenAI’s next model will not have to wait as long for GPT-6 as they did for GPT-5, per the report. However, the exact launch date of GPT-6 is unknown.
When GPT-5 was introduced on August 7 as part of a highly-anticipated launch event, many users reacted with anger and disappointment as they felt the AI model was less ‘emotional’ and ‘responsive’ than its predecessors when it came to handling personal user queries.
Altman expressed his concern about users becoming too emotionally reliant on AI chatbots, but acknowledged the feedback as the company implemented an update.
“We’re making GPT-5 warmer and friendlier based on feedback that it felt too formal before. Changes are subtle, but ChatGPT should feel more approachable now. You’ll notice small, genuine touches like “Good question” or “Great start,” not flattery. Internal tests show no rise in sycophancy compared to the previous GPT-5 personality,” posted OpenAI on X on August 16, adding that more updates would come soon.
Altman observed that the “real solution” was to let users cutsomise ChatGPT’s style more, and said the company was working on this, reported CNBC.
The AI company is also working to make more of its offerings accessible to users worldwide. OpenAI this week announced the launch of its ChatGPT Go subscription tier in India that supports higher message limits, more image generations, greater file uploads, and longer memory, priced at ₹399.
