Google is rolling out an AI-powered conversational search feature within AI Mode called Search Live in India in English and Hindi. The company will also be expanding AI Mode to seven new Indian languages including Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, and Urdu.
Search Live was launched in the U.S. in July and uses voice and camera capabilities so users can point the camera anywhere to get real-time assistance and have continued conversations.
India is only the second market after the U.S. to get the update.
In a blog posted by Hema Budaraju, the vice president of product management in Search said that Indians were “power users” of multimodal search and made their biggest user base for voice and visual search globally which is why they had chosen the country.
“The possibilities are many, whether you’re troubleshooting a problem, tackling a DIY project, helping with schoolwork, or exploring a new place. For instance, if you’re trying to perfect an iced matcha at home, you can show Google your ingredients and ask, ‘What is a good order to combine these to make an iced matcha?’ to get instant, helpful advice,” the blog post noted.
Users will just need to tap on the ‘Live’ icon under the search bar on the Google app or open Google Lens and choose ‘Live’ at the bottom of the screen.
Search Live will start rolling out today in India and will gradually be available to more people.
