Instagram has announced the launch of “trial reels” for creators so they can test new content by publishing videos that aren’t visible to their followers. The feature is being rolled out now after being tested in May.

A support page on Instagram stated that trial reels are meant for creators on Instagram to experiment with new ideas and check if the content resonates with non-followers who can see the reel. If it works, the creator can choose to share the trial reel with their followers.

However, if a non-follower wants to share it directly with a follower, they will be able to view the reel.

Additionally, the trial reel won’t appear on their main account. After 24 hours, they can see the views, likes, comments and shares the reel has received and decide if they want to post it from their profile or archive it.

The feature will be rolled out globally to everyone with a professional account on the platform within the next few weeks.

This will ease some of the pressure off creators who depend on Instagram to make money while pushing creativity.

A couple of weeks ago, Instagram introduced live location sharing and the ability to assign nicknames for friends in private messages.
