WhatsApp video calls coming to Google Messages with new features: Here’s how it works

When tapped, this icon will initiate a WhatsApp video call—provided that the recipient also has WhatsApp installed on their device. If the recipient does not have WhatsApp, the call will default to Google Meet instead.

Feature Availability and Limitations

Currently, Google Messages only supports video calls through Google Meet. If Meet is not installed, users are prompted to download it. However, with this upcoming update, users will be able to bypass this requirement and initiate WhatsApp video calls directly from Google Messages.

At launch, the feature will support only one-on-one video calls, with group calling not yet available. Google is expected to introduce group video calling functionality in future updates.
