Is X under ‘massive cyber attack’? Elon Musk drops bombshell amid platform outage

Elon Musk’s social media platform X (formerly Twitter) was thrown into chaos as thousands of users reported outages on March 10, leading Musk himself to suggest that the site had been targeted by a “massive cyber attack.”

With reports flooding in from users experiencing login failures, timeline glitches, and complete inaccessibility, speculation ran wild. But it was Musk’s own cryptic response that sent the internet into a frenzy—was this just another system glitch, or was X under siege from an organized attack?

Elon Musk Sounds the Alarm

Musk, never one to hold back on dramatic revelations, took to X to confirm the platform was dealing with a large-scale attack.

“There was (still is) a massive cyberattack against X,” Musk wrote. “We get attacked every day, but this was done with a lot of resources. Either a large, coordinated group and/or a country is involved. Tracing…”

His statement sent conspiracy theories spiraling, with some users suggesting this could be a politically motivated takedown.

A Coordinated Strike? Users Link X Outage to Wider Attacks

Musk’s comments came in response to a post that connected the X outage to a string of recent attacks. “First, protests against DOGE. Then, Tesla stores were attacked. Now, X is down. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility that this downtime is the result of an attack on X,” one user speculated. Adding fuel to the fire, Downdetector—a site that tracks online service disruptions—recorded more than 40,000 outage reports around 10 AM Eastern Time. The scale of the disruption was undeniable.

Who Could Be Behind the Attack?

With Musk hinting at the involvement of either a well-organized hacker group or even a nation-state, cybersecurity experts are now racing to assess the severity of the breach.

If this was a cyber attack, who would have the motive? Could it be a retaliation for Musk’s growing political entanglements? A blowback from his controversial decisions at Tesla? Or is X simply the latest target in an era of escalating digital warfare?

For now, the mystery remains unsolved, but one thing is certain—this isn’t just another glitch in the system.
