Instagram is rolling out a feature to let users schedule their chat messages to be sent at a later time, per a help centre webpage.
The new feature will apply to text-only messages alone, while those with media such as photos, videos, and GIFs cannot be scheduled to be sent later. It is not clear when this policy will be updated.
The update is being rolled out to both Android and iOS users.
Per The Hindu’s test message, users can schedule a message to be sent close to one month later, at any time of their choosing.
Scheduling messages to be sent later can help Instagram users navigate time zone differences, or even change when they appeared to be online. It can also help users reach businesses during their working hours without having to wait for them to come online.
Users can also manage their scheduled messages.
How to schedule a message on Instagram:
Tap the DM icon on the Instagram app
Select a chat session in your inbox
Start a new message or reply to an existing one sent by your contact
Compose the message you want to send later
Tap and hold down the paper aeroplane icon
A new calendar-based menu will pop up
Set the date and time when you want the message to be delivered
Confirm the settings
