iOS 19: Which iPhones Might Lose Support?
A leak from a reliable source on X (formerly Twitter), cited by MacRumors, suggests that Apple is set to remove the 2018 iPhone models from its compatibility list. If these reports hold true, users of the iPhone XR, XS, and XS Max may need to consider an upgrade to experience Apple’s latest features and improvements.
Despite this potential drop in support, Apple typically continues to provide security updates for older devices even after they stop receiving major iOS updates. For example, the iPhone 6s, which was discontinued from major iOS updates years ago, recently received an iOS 15.8.4 security patch.
Which iPhones Will Get iOS 19?
For users with newer devices, there is good news. iOS 19 is expected to be compatible with the following models:
- iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max
- iPhone 12 series (including Mini, Pro, and Pro Max)
- iPhone 13 series (including Mini, Pro, and Pro Max)
- iPhone 14 series (including Plus, Pro, and Pro Max)
- iPhone 15 series (including Plus, Pro, and Pro Max)
- iPhone 16 series (expected to launch later in 2025)
- iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation)
What About iPads?
While iPhones with the A12 Bionic chip might be left out, the situation is slightly different for iPads. Reports indicate that the 5th-generation iPad Mini, which shares the same A12 Bionic processor, will still be supported. However, the 7th-generation iPad, running on an older A10 Fusion chip, may not receive the iPadOS 19 update.
iOS 19 Design Overhaul: What to Expect
In addition to device compatibility changes, iOS 19 is rumored to bring one of the biggest UI transformations in years. Reports suggest a more transparent, rounded design similar to VisionOS. However, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has dismissed some of the leaked design renders, stating they are either outdated or missing key details.
WWDC 2025 is expected to showcase not only iOS 19 but also updates to macOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and new AI-driven features. As June 9 approaches, Apple users will be eagerly awaiting confirmation on these rumored changes.
